Crogiolo dei Mondi
The medieval city of Montagnana is surrounded by walls with four gates and twenty-four towers which are fortified and look much like castles. One is the Castle of San Zeno. The city dates back to the 13th century when the town was rebuilt. Originally surrounded by a moat, the draw-bridge that crossed the moat gave entrance to the city and probably led into San Zeno's inner courtyard. Today this castle is a museum housing Roman and Medieval objects.

Inside the city's walls are varying architectural styles. Notable among them are a Gothic Duomo & the 15th century Church of San Francesco.

Montagnana makes for a good day trip from Vicenza and a scenic drive. It can be reached in 40 minutes by heading due south of Vicenza thru the Berici Hills.

Montagnana is a town in the Veneto region of Italy. It's 71kms inland from Venice and is definitely not part of that city.

The town is famous for it's beautifully preserved medieval walls, believed to be the best in Europe.
