Me and my friend are planning yo visit Rome this summer, but haven't chosen a month yet... Can you advice us something.

The most pleasent month is September. July and August can get very hot and June can still be rainy, but not cold.
Rome is quite safe to move around in, just a cautionary step, do not to carry a handbag, but place your valuables in the hotel safe and use a money belt.
The threat is, I am sorry to say, from the high number of gypsy refugees from the Balkan War. I am sorry for them but my records show that they use small children for picking pockets (one small girl of twelve has been arrested 82 yes 82 times).
Otherwise no serious crimes. You can stroll through the streets of the City Centre day and night, lots of security Web cams and Police officers.

Early June - not as hot as July and August.
Also, August isn't so good because all the natives are on vacation and the city is mostly full of tourists (I don't have anything against tourists, but my point is that the atmosphere isn't the same as when the natives are in town).
As far as safety is concerned, most crime in Rome is of the pickpocket variety. Just be careful about your purse and don't wear dangling jewelry that someone can snatch while riding by on a motorino (Vespa). |

Rome is quite hot in the summer. If you must go in the summer go in July rather than in August. The heat in August is stifling and the city is not as crowded because every one is on holidays. Many places are shut down. Especially the stores. |

From my experiences, the best time is early to mid May or late August to September. Otherwise it is Hot!!! The fact you are two young single women travelling makes you a "target" but you already know that or you wouldn't have asked. Like any big city, it has its crime. Be wary like you would in any foreign country. The Italians are certainly "hot blooded" and appreciate beautiful women. Don't be surprised by their attentions. |
