What is the best way to live and work in Italy without a business or language background?

Face the real...you cant work in Italy without knowing the language...is the FIRST thing to know....sorry but would I have a chance to work in Us or Uk without speaking a word of english?Only in the restaurant kitchen maybe...but they are already filled with people from romania or north africa for that
Twinpeaks you really think you can work in Italy and NO speak a word of italian? Have you had experience in that? Sorry but is far from the real..my boyfr could not speak a word of italian and NO ONE was ever consider him !! This is REAL life report....in Italy the need people who catch the meaning FAST as they dont want lose time and they got no patience...how can you expect they are there to repeat you very s l o w l y the words?They sack you straight away! To be an english teacher you have to be graduate here..is not enough is your mother toungue!

This depends on where you're from. Right now, this would be difficult because there are not many jobs available. Most of the companies in the area where I live are not hiring anyone. If you don't have the language background, job opportunities will be even more limited.

If you're a US citizen (or other non EU), you can only stay here in Europe for 90 days as a tourist without a visa (some non EU citizens require a visa to visit). It also isn't legal for you to work here without having a work permit and a visa that allows you to do so unless you're from the EU. Generally, you cannot apply for a work permit yourself - the company has to apply for it which means you need to have a job lined up. Jobs for people outside the EU are difficult. EU citizens have the right to move and work within the EU, so there's a much smaller burden for a company to hire someone from here than from the US. As a US citizen, you need to have skills that aren't widely available here or some other specialized knowledge such as experience with non-European regulatory bodies. Some health care fields are in demand. One possibility though is working in a branch of an international company in your country and transfering here - that's how I ended up here in Italy for the past 9 years. However, that isn't too likely without specialized skills either.

If you were Canadian or Austrailian, it might be possible to get a working holiday visa that would allow you to work short term here. That isn't available to US citizens, because the US doesn't have a similar program for foreigners.

A good starting point for planning this type of move is to do some research on the expat websites for the countries you're interested in. This is a good way to get current information and make in-country contacts. These are sites for expats in Italy with general info on living and working and a couple with jobs listings:

There are lots of other sites with information. Just Google "expat" and the name of the country you're interested in. Since you've got friends in France, you could get them to help make contacts with prospective employers. I would expect there would be a lot of competition.

Note that if you are a US expat, you would have to file tax returns both here and in the US.

A lot of italians speak a bit of english, and some speak english very well. I think it shouldn't be a problem. Maybe you could teach english at school. I think you can find a job like this, if you teach with an italian teacher near you that explain better to the students. Anyway it depends if you want to go to north or south. Maybe in north there are more possibilities, and different jobs you can do.
