Tuscany & most of northern Italy. Also, I found that the Vatican is in great shape & beautiful, clean & protected by the Italian Police, outside of the Vatican it is filthy. Also, watch out for getting robbed. Also, all of Italy is filled with artifacts of hundreds if not thousands of years ago!

It really depends on what YOU consider beautiful. But, I really love Tuscany - the landscape is the most beautiful, Florence, Lucca, Pisa, Cinque Terra, La Spezia are all amazing in there own way.
Rome is stunning because, you'll just be walking along narrow streets that open to these amazing piazzas.
Venice is amazingly romantic.
The area around Naples - Sorrento and the Almalfi coast are lovely as well.
Italy has to be one of my favorite Mediterranean Countries

It depends on your taste. I like Tuscany the best. Siena, in particular, is an excellent town.

I love Italy ,so to pick the best region is impossible. For me some favourite places are Cinque Terra,Roma and Assisi are fun and beautiful all for their own reasons.I also love Venezia and the Amalfi coast.

We visited the Lake Garda area that was nice. Also lived over on Sardinia for two years so that would definitely get my vote!! The beaches are the best around..Venice is my favorite city!

All of Italy is beautiful. The lake region near the foothills of Switzerland is breath taking, Venice is more romantic than beautiful (don't get me wrong I loved Venice)I would have to say the Tuscany is the most beautiful region, it's a charming region, the vineyards, rolling hillsides, the cypress trees, the farmhouses, the castles and the creamy-colored villas. I just loved this area.

If you plan on going to Italy, try to see as much as possible, it's all good.

I'm italian, so I suggest some other places to see. I completely agree w/people who indicate towns and countryside in Tuscany. So as Rome, Venice and Liguria (cinque terre is mostly in Liguria). These are places you must see visiting Italy. But Sicily, Sardinia and Dolomiti (far south, west and north) are fantastic too. The thing is that we take for granted to live in a open air museum. Maybe this is one of the reason because we don't take so much care of it......

PS I live in Bologna. Beautiful city (last John Grisham's book take place in my town). But we are known for the food (and the oldest university in the world).
Ciao

You definitely need to visit Puglia. It is the region on the "heel" of the boot in the south. It is becoming a more and more popular tourist location, so this is a good time to visit sooner rather than later, as its not full of mental tourists. It has got great history, with old fortified rural towns, but also has amazing beaches, and great beach nightlife with restaurants/bars/clubs on the beach. You will also find that the cost of living is much cheaper than other regions in Italy (since the euro, the cost of living, especially in touristy places, has doubled), and the food, being in the south of Italy, is amazing. Hope this helps.
