Italy IS amazing and I don't think one could ever tire of this country. Sounds like you've been to quite a few of the hot spots. It's good that you want to experience some of the smaller villages. I do not admit to travelling everywhere in Italy - but have visited some pretty spectacular places. I guess I would have to base my answer on what your interests are. If you are into wine and the countryside of Tuscany - stay in Montepulciano. Beautiful hill town in the heart of the wine country. Great pedestrian streets for walking, splendid views and good access to other parts of Tuscany and Umbria (via car).
If you are into the resorty type places - I really enjoyed Positano. We were there in May and I was surprised that the throngs of tourists had yet to arrive. Positano has a beautiful beachfront promendade, gorgeous views of the Sea, great food and fun shopping. You can do some fun walking tours from here and ride the boat to some of the other towns on the Coast. Also in this area is Ravello. Ravello isn't on the sea but commands splendid views. There are some lovely gardens and villas up there. This is a quieter place to stay.
I would also recommend Bellagio on Lago de Como. Totally different as you are in the Lake District of Italy - but still beautiful! You can take a boat to the various towns on the lake. George Clooney has a villa here...
I'm sure there are many, many others that warrant a visit and I hope you have the chance to see more!
One last one - I also stayed in Riomaggiore on the Cinque Terre. This was wonderful. If you go to this area - I might recommend Vernazza instead as it has its own beach. This entire area is nice and offers some great walking!
You probably have already visited these sites - but I find them very informative:

Not having been to every village in Italy, I can't really say which is the prettiest, but there is a small village just outside of Orvieto, that is up on a tufa. You have to walk across a drawbridge to get there and the view is up on high and all around spectacular. You feel like you have stepped into another century because the village is so quaint and simple and surrounded by beauty. When I was there they were having a mule race and bringing bruchetta and wine up from the cellars. Ahhhh...Italia! |

Siena is really nice and less touristy than Florence. If you really want some beautiful, peaceful villages, go to the island of Sardinia (Sardegna in Italian). Bauladu is my favorite little village that I've been to there. Sardinia has gorgeous beaches with crystal blue water, a slower pace, really nice people, and, as with everywhere in Italy, great food. Check it out:

You'll be glad you did. I promise! |
