The currency used in Rome, as well as in all of Italy, is the Euro. It is the same currency used in France, Germany, Austria and many other countries. The previous currency in use was the Lira.

the euro.

The euro is the currency and let me say that if you have an ATM card your best bargain is to get money from a bank in Italy using that, the rates will be far better than anywhere.

The Euro, the old currency was the Italian Lira, it is no more.

Social Science Lady
The Euro, the currency of the European Union.

Kat
They use Euros. I was just there last year. They still accept lira in some places, but you're better off with Euros. Plus - who knows, maybe you'll travel to other parts in Europe! So you're better off with Euros!
