Palermo Italy, wow big city, but a dump. There is basically nothing to see and do there, nothing. My advice to you is rent a car, hit Agrigento see the Greek temples, they are 2000 years old. Then get over to Catania, Catania is described by Glamour magazine as "The Milan of the South" There are many great clubs, all close to the train station. Head north and have dinner in Taormina its the nicest city in all of Sicily.
Okay in Palermo things to see, there are museams, and some good shopping adjacent the train station. when you arrive by plane take the shuttle to central station cost is 5-7 euro, (they usually raise the price every year and I was there last October 5 euro) from there you can walk all around downtown. Near the port its a little dangerous and not very nice looking. Look of all the times I have driven over to Palermo, its a traffic nightmare, the shops get really old real fast, and museams are good, but you have to get a taxi to get to them, or the bus, then you are back at the part where I talked about traffic nightmares. In the summer Palermo has beaches, then there is a mountain you can climb to the east, near Bagharia. There are some good clubs and they are near the university, ask for directions to the university, however Italans dont start partying until about 12-1 am, and go till 3-5 am. Good luck.
p.s. the train ride to catania, is 12 euro one way, and takes about 4 hours. |
