Depends just how long you'll be in Venice. There is so much to see in Venice itself that, if you've only got a few days, it's really not worthwhile to go further afield. Just explore the city itself, do vaporetto trips to the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello. If you do have more time you could look at day trips to Padua and Verona |

wait.. are you serious? you don't read much do you? venice is a little world all of its own. grab a hotel map and walk around. don't worry about getting lost. you're on an island. you'll find your way back around. ride the water taxi to murano island & check out all the glass works. it's a mandatory venice tradition you take a gondola ride. & then walking around go into all the nooks and crannies. there's some spots where the sidewalks end & you're facing a canal & you can watch gondolas glide past for hours. feed the pigeons at st. marco's square. don't fall for all the tourist trap shindigs. they pull you away from the charm. & be glad you're there for xmas. i was there spring/summer & the canals reeked of murky lagoon. |
