London will be cold and rainy. Italy will be mild. Make sure you bring all the necessary electric outlet converters. (Uk's is different from Italy's). I recommend taking traveler's checks instead of cash or atm card. Cash could get stolen and the atm's charge you crazy fees and conversion charges. As always in traveling, comfy shoes are a must, but try not to wear white sneakers (you will stand out like a sore thumb). Also keep in mind: the europeans generally dress nicer than we do (i.e. they don't wear jeans most of the time).

I've been to London, Rome, and many cities in-between in the span of 17 days so I know what you're thinking.

When are you going? If soon (or into the summer) the heaviest article of clothing you should bring is a sweatshirt, and just one. London isn't freezing, but it's never 80*. Rome is very hot in the summer. Bring short and short-sleeved shirts. If you're going to the Vatican, bring appropriate but cool clothing. On my trip I took at the end of summer, I got through each day in capris and a short-sleeved shirt, sometimes with a light sweater and sometimes without.

Bring suntan lotion! And a digital camera, or a regular camera with lots of film. You may want to bring a few little maps of the cities you're going to so you can find your way around. Most importantly, bring fun-ness!
