What to bring for clothes to Italy? |
Hi, we'll be going to Italy later this month. We will be going to Rome,Capri,Florence,Venice and Milan. I am thinking of bringing my Levi's,New Balance sneakers(white)for walking,2 or 3 pair of capris(one's more dressy, others are more casual),a plain black below the knees dress that wears like a tank top on shoulders, black evening gown, open toe 1" heel shoes that flip, shorts to the knees, flip flops and maybe 1 or 2 skirts. I would wear my jeans/shorts or capris during the day and dress or skirt(one is brown other is tan, might bring a black one too) at night for dinner. What about my boyfriend..will he be okay in khaki's,button up shirts, some shorts,Levi's,sneakers&leather sandals,we'll both probably bring tank tops seeing how temps will be in the 80's or 90's....thank you.....we don't really want to stand out too much as american tourists..I hate looking like a tourist anyway haha(can't help it carrying a camera though huh? lol)
Additional Details haha thanks so far...see we're trying to not so much stand out as American tourists which I've heard is a good idea..hence the pickpocketers etc |

do NOT bring your own blow dryer. even with a converter/adapter it will most likely fry. if you really want/need one, you are best off buying an inexpensive one there, or look for an international/travel blow dryer.
as for what to bring... italians are into fashion. our "business casual" - slacks, nice ts, etc. is their daily wear. they frown upon wearing sneakers. maybe a darker pair of walking shoes would be better. or check merrill.
check some of the links below. |

hey! It will be hot so bring the following: Bathing suits, skirts (not too short), tank tops, fitted t-shirts, nothing thick or hot, a jacket just in case, heals, sandals, Hotel blow dryers are weak just in case you want to supply your own, bring perfume, and everything else you mentioned is okay as long as you wont sweat in it. Have fun! Hope you pick me. |

Sounds ok, but don't bring too much, so you can do some additional shopping. Shops close in the afternoon and stay open really late, so you will have plenty of time to do "a passeggiata" between 6-9pm and do some shopping like the Italians do |

You made no mention of t-shirts or how long you plan to stay in Italy. I think you should bring about three t-shirts. Try not to bog yourself down with clothing. If you really find you are missing something you can buy it there. Capri pants are a good choice. A pair of walking shorts or longer style shorts might be benficial. If you are wearing shorts or blue jeans, you might not be admitted into museums and certain other attractions. One pair of blue jeans, however, might come in handy. I would still include them if I were you. A longer skirt that is easy to slip on might come in handy if you go out. I do not think that too many dress up clothes are a good idea. If you are planning to go to the beach, swim wear and a pair of beach shorts might be useful.
For your feet, you should definitely bring along sandals, or else buy them when you are there. You will probably be wearing them most of the time in the summer.
Your boyfriend seems to have the right idea with longer pants blue jeans, shorts and sandals.
If you are not planning to be in Italy for more than two weeks, try to avoid getting bogged down with too many items. Don't worry too much about blending in, but always be careful about people who scout out tourists. |

OK, PLEASE leave the white sneakers at home. You will easily stick out and be picked out as a tourist; plus there are so many better options! Consider, Borns, they are comfortable, flat, and fashionable. You want to look like you are wearing the flats because you want to, not because you have too.
Keep in mind, you are going to Italy, to MILAN one of the fashion capitals of the world. Don't embarrass yourself. Leave the shorts at home and opp for skirts or dresses. These are actually cooler and since you know you're going to sweat, keep this in mind when selecting fabrics.
