What to do near Rome, Italy? |
I will be visiting Italy with my boyfriend -- we'll see Rome, Florence, Venice, and Milan together.
However, I'll arrive in Rome (by myself) 3 days before he does. Since we'll see Rome together, I thought I should go somewhere else on my own.
Any suggestions on what to do or where to go (neighboring cities, etc.) on my own before he arrives?

You may want to go to the seaside and relax until he arrives ...
This is just a rough idea for you stay in Rome. I am not sure of how many days you will be in Rome..... I will also help you plan your 3 days before your boyfriend arrives....Going to the seaside /beach would be relaxing ... What do you think?

With 4 days:
Day of Arrival- Get settled into your hotel room; take a stroll around the area to get acquainted with the area so you can find your way back.; Go to some of the sites near your hotel; Go window shopping, etc.
Dinner (in Rome it usually begins at 8pm sometimes 9pm)
Take a stroll after dinner to the Trevi Fountain or Piazza Navona are fabulous in the evening.
****The first full day:
Go to the Vatican and Sistine Chapel
If you are going in the summer the lines will be long, I would advise you to join a tour group as they get head of the line treatment. or go very very early.... The Church opens at 9am.
This will take you most of the day.

Have lunch- food in Rome can be pricey. I would advise you to either buy a sandwich off one of the vendors or bring a picnic lunch. If you are near a supermarket, buy fruit, water, cheese, prosciutto, and bread(wine or a soft drink if you prefer)--

Return to your hotel and rest... After a little rest... If you want to go window shopping go...
In the evening before or after dinner,take a stroll to some of the sites. .
*** If your first full day is a Wednesday, do the Vatican and Sistine Chapel another day-- The Church is closed Wednesday mornings until 1pm.
When I was in Rome in May, our first full day was on Wednesday so we saved the church and sistine chapel for the last day- using the sightseeing bus to get to and from the church.
2nd full day: Go to see the Borghese Galley. Reservations are required. (you are only allowed 2 hours in the gallery) I would highly recommend seeing the gallery.

You can speak to someone in English by selecting 2. You just reserve your time and date... and you pay when you arrive at the gallery.
Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy it in the park. If you want to see all of the park, rent a bike or an electric bike and tour the park on one of these. In May, we rented a electric bike(10 euros per hour) We had a great time. You find the bike rentals in the park.
Go back to your hotel and rest...
After your rest, go to the Train Station and see about the Bus 110 sightseeing bus ; get your tickets for the next day.
You can purchase the tickets at the Bus 110 ticket booth near Termini station located between the city buses in the booth there or aboard the bus.
110 Bus is an open sightseeing bus which makes stops to the main attractions in Rome... It is a hop on/hop/off bus...
Good idea if you have children or adult who cannot walk a lot.
A bus ticket cost 16 euros. and children under 6 do not pay.(children 6-12 years Euro 7,00)
From Termini Station, departing every day, every 15 minutes. You can also hop on one of the buses at one of their stops and buy a ticket

Dinner, a stroll, etc.
****You could also do this on the first full day and go to the church and sistine chapel on your last full day. This way you can see where all the attractions are and the distance from your hotel --walking; metro etc purposes.

because there is a lot to see in Rome, you can take the chance to look around the city and then plan a schedule of places to visit when you boyfriend arrives.
It's probably best to go with your boyfriend to explore the sorroundings of Rome. |
