What to do/see in Rome, Italy next summer?

I am going to Rome next year in late may through early july to take two courses about italian languiage and culture (I'm already studying italian lang, history, & culture). What do you recommend to see while I'm there? I have class M-Th, so we have time to go to other places during the weekend and afternoons. I'm also staying with a host family. So do you know of anything going on or something to see (other than architecure since, I know a lot about archietcure already and plan to see major buildings).

After yr full-immersion in all the highlights spot that Rome can offer you (and that it seems you know already...) I suggest you in the week-ends,when you are free from the school to take the train and visit Naples (with Pompei and Amalfitan coast with Positano), Florence-Pise and Siena in the Tuscany. In Italy trains are rather cheap and connections with Rome are really good.
Sicily and Venice, even if worthy with a trip, are much too far to go there and be back in just 2 days.
In Rome, aside the works of art, you'll find really a lot to do.
people is very friendly and you'll feel immediately like at home.
The food and the drinks are fantastic (avoid the big, renowned restaurants and go instead to "trattoria" and "pizzeria"; yr pocket wallet will be not empty if you follow my advise).
In Rome be always aware of the pick pockets.
I feel that's enough but if you want know more about Italy in general and Rome in particular you could click on my profile and read some of my many answers I've given to other askers.
Have a nice staying in Rome.

Lucky you.
The Collusium is a must. There is great shopping if you are into that. Plan to spend alot of time eating.
Try and make it to Sicily ... the town of Taormina. It's one of the prettiest places on Earth. Visit the Blue grotto.

Obviously you absolutely MUST see the Vatican (it is sooo beautiful there). Will be crowded, but well worth it.

Also, the Colluseum is a must. So much history and reverence there, its amazing!
