What tourist attractions in Rome require advance reservations? |
My parents and I will visit only Rome for one week, from March 27 to April 3, 2009. What tourist attractions require reservations/ticket purchase in advance to get in and how far (days/weeks) in advance do I have to reserve/purchase ticket? I read Galleria Borghese requires reservations. What else? Thanks for your help. |

Most Rome tourist attractions don't require reservations however you risk to stand in very long queues with those who didn't reserve.
It's not uncommon to wait in front of the Colosseum or Vatican for more than an hour to purchase a ticket and then get in.
Whereas if you book you can skip the queue and go straight in - definitely the way to go.
You can find more info about the types of tours available here http://www.romanlife-romeitaly.com/rome-italy-tours.html
also, here is a list of the Top 10 free tourist attractions in Rome

I don't know about Galleria Borghese, but generally the most important attractions in Rome don't require reservation. I will go in Rome in this month (I hope) in tre hours by train I'm in Rome... and I am very happy when I go around the city! I think it's the best city of the world. I highly recommend that you go from the Colosseum to the Altar of the Fatherland in Piazza Venezia, on foot through the beautiful Imperial Forums! And then go absolutely into the Church of St. Peter and salts on the dome (cupola) where you can admire the incredible panorama! Congratulations on your choice! |

The Galleria Borghese definitely requires advance reservations. You can get them online at www.ticketeria.it
Aside from that, you shouldn't need reservations except maybe for the Scavi tour which covers the excavations below St. Peter's Basilica. You will find some more tips here: http://www.wheninrometours.com/Articles/Rome-News/ |
