The Italians are very good when it comes to foreigners speaking the Italian language. (Although they do tease each others attempts at the English language).
They are very patient and not once have I ever heard an Italian make fun of someone trying to learn or speak the Italian language. (I live in Rome.)

If you would like some more practice you can check out the free Italian course http://www.romanlife-romeitaly.com/italian-love-phrases.html half way down the page.
Enjoy.

We italians generally appreciate if tourists try to speak italian!
It doesen't matter if it's not perfect, it's an effort and it has to be appreciated.

Ciao e goditi il viaggio!

I'm Italian and I'm in your same situation...
I'm starting today to write on American Yahoo Answers and I'm feeling quite embarrassed...
I'm afraid that someone laugh to my mistake of language...
So don't worry for the italian's trial and learn my language so you can come to live in Italy.
Good Luck!!!

of course, they will appreciate your accent. Italians are generally hospitable

Never fear! The overwhelming majority of Italians you meet will be very pleased that you try to speak in Italian.

It depends on the person, but I think that, in general, people will appreciate your efforts...
