Busana Vecchia
It is between Savona, Italy and the France border.
Busana, as it used to be called, was demolished by natural causes back in the 1400's. The city was obliterated. So the town's remaining occupants packed up and moved a short ways away and started a new "Busana" (so this is actually the town you will want to look up for locating it)
About 75-ish years ago, some artsy-types rediscovered the ruins and decided to move in. They completely rebuilt the homes, brought in electricity and water, and even started selling art from their homes.
Now that the site has become a popular tourist site (it is *so* cool!!) the Italian government is trying to eveict these people from their homes.
That was in 2003. Don't know who won the battle - though, to be honest, in Italy, nothing happens too fast. Who knows where it all stands today. |
