Late may is sunny and warm, not too hot but a nice hot...in some part of Italy like the south you can already go to beach and swimm. Late july can be crowded i would advise you may or june

I live in central Italy (Abruzzo, on the other side of the Apennines from Rome).

May is a great month to visit Italy. It's warm, but generally not too hot, things are still – even in the South – fairly green from the previous winter's rains and resorts are not packed with Italian tourists (very few Italians are brave enough to take their holidays in any place other than Italy).

Late July is not a great time to come unless you really enjoy the heat and you get a buzz out of being one of millions of tourists.

August is absolutely the worst time to visit since that's when every Italian in the country heads for the coast to bake on the beach for two weeks.

I once read that May is the best time to visit Rome, but I can't remember why.

If you head south ~ Sorrento, Positano, Sicily, Amalfi, Capri ~ it should be wonderfully warm. Yes it will be crowded in late July, everyone will be at the beach then. Stay out of the cities at that time it will be way way to hot.

The month of may is the perfect time: May is the month of Roses, no tourist crowded, less expensive, nice weather, in late july is a co as, and too hot. Enjoy your vacation and the fresh sea food, and delicious "spaghetti Alle Vongole", and delicious fruits, and the people, and every think alse. I never went to Sardinia, but I think most be beautiful! I Love Italy anyway!

I live next to Italy and from my experience...

If you're going to the tourist centers (a la Rome, Tuscany, Venice, or any other big city) then it's more or less always crowded.

As for the tan, May seems to be a good month :P

hi! I think that the best period is in spring or summer...
sardinia have only beach -place... so I think that you want to the sea...
Tha best period to go to sea in italy is june , Iuly . August... but in August and in Iuly is crowded
In june or in september isn't crowded but it could be cloudy, but generally it's sunny and very warm...
Sorry my languange...
