When I go to Italy, How Will My Parents Know if Something Bad Happened to Me? How to Convince?

I am 21
5'8
Asian
and an American from Hawaii.
I will be going to Italy alone but will meet with networked friends living there.

I can pretty much convince my parents to let me to go to Italy except on the one question that I can't even answer: If something bad happens to me like I get killed or kidnapped, since those are the only things that could happen where I could not contact my parents, how would they find out about it?

Is there some kind of insurance plan or safety watch of some sort that I could contact throughout the day to update them and such that I'm safe?

The only thing I can think of is calling my parents in the morning, afternoon, and at night, but there has got to be a better way.

Please help me.

Do they let you travel alone in the US (Hawaii or the mainland)? Because you're no more likely to have something happen to you in Italy than you are at home.

You can buy a cheap cell phone that will work in Europe, and call them once a day. Make sure you have your emergency contact information on you, including your local friends, so that if anything does happen, the authorities will know who to call. And make sure your friends have your parents' contact info, and vice versa.

It's just like traveling any place else, really.

Hi I'm Italian and I live in Italy. You can come to Italy : Italy is less dangerous than countries like the US!

If you inform them when you are where and you keep 1 daily contact, then your parents have enough information to trace you at any time.

In case of any crime committed, your parents would of course be informed the same way as if you would stay home.

Talk to your parents and reach an agreement with them on what would make them feel secure. In any case accidents can happen also at home.

I sent my son at 17 to the US and the bridge on I35W (Minneapolis) collapsed the day after he crossed it. He stayed in Baltimore, he stayed in Brooklyn and visited all of NY by himself without any problems.

You're 21 and you need to convince your parents to let you go?

Other than by phone, there are a lot of public internet sites where you could contact them by e-mail, but daily contact or several times a day doesn't make a lot of sense. You're safer here than in the US.

If constant contact is that important, buy them tickets and bring them along for the trip.

Calling is an idea; however you shouldn't have to do it 3 times a day. They have these international phones that you can buy. These phones let you call your parents, and allow them to call you. You wouldn't have to worry about not finding a payphone.
There are insurance plans you can look into, you would probably want to contact your families current insurance provider to see what they offer for people in your situation.

i find more dangerous cities in USA than Italy.

just mind your own business and you'll be fine.

Hey don't worry about anything..Always think positive..Thats my advice.

Why would you get killed or kidnapped, are you a secret agent or something like that? Wow! By the way do you know what "matto" means in italian? It means "crazy"...

they will know when they do not hear from you. Get an international calling card so you can call home every day or email from a friends home. If they don't here from you are dead. If you are dead there isn't anything they can do.

Kidnapping is not really an issue...
