When is it a less tourist crowded time to go to Venice,Italy?

I am planning to live there with my best friend for a year and she and I are so excited so when is a uncrowded place. Also I was wondering if anyone could give me some info on where to get an apartment. Is it expensive, hard to live there, etc.

Accommodation in Venice is quite expensive. The city is busy most of the year, although winter seems to be a better time to go if you want to avoid crowds in San Marco, although will be cold and wet. If you want to avoid the crowds just keep away from the main tourist areas.

I'm assuming you have a passport from an EU country which will allow you to live in Venice for a year, or a student visa?

November thru April.

Winter and early spring as the others said - but one thing they forgot to mention: do some research on when the carnevale dates are. (Usually late January - early February) That is when it gets busy in the winter time.

We were there the end of April, first part of May and it was fabulous, the weather is nice, there were no big crowds, and no long line-ups.

Rent is expensive, but you have no car expenses, so it evens out.
