Either April/May or September/October are good times to visit Rome. It's not too hot or so crowded as during the peak tourist season from June - August. Everything is open and it's a good time to travel and see some of the surroundings of Rome.

definitely october! they call it " the roman spring" because in that period there is a wonderful wheather and there are a lot of festivals and art stuff...

I would go in September. The weather is still very good. You don't need alot of clothes. We were there in September for 3 weeks and traveled all over Italy, to the south, the middle and north. We spend 6 days in Rome. The weather was truly beautiful. I think we got rain one day and it cleared up quick. The northern part of Italy can get cool in October if you are traveling to that part of Italy.

December is also a lovely time because everyone is getting ready for the holidays. Everything is decorated and lots going on.

Really anytime is a good time. But budget wise, summer is the most expensive time and the most crowded.

Have a great trip and enjoy Rome. It's a wonderful city to visit. We enjoyed it very much. So much to do and see)
