I went in November and the weather was absolutely beautiful. The high temps in rome were in the low 70's and the lows were in the 40's, even in Tuscany it was great.

if you like crowds and tourists of all sorts...go in the middle of september....if not...go in like towards the beginning of the year or the ending...but it wouldnt be the same without all the tourists...

After the United State stops making enemy's all over the world..

Late September and October. You have warm weather and fewer crowds. However, you miss the busy tourist time of July and August.

Italy has the main holidays in august.
after that there are no holidays till November 1 or december 8.-
in october you still have good weather.

September to early November. The weather is usually nice at this time of the year.

It depends on where are u going and what are u expecting to go.

In southern Italy (Rome and beyond) weather is usually fine from April thru November and even in winter it's usually not freezing.
In northern Italy even october is often quite cold, with morning and night fogs and usually form December to February minimum temperature get below 0 Celsius.

Spring is everywhere quite rainy and summer (esp July and August) very hot, especially in the north because of humidity.

If u travel to cities avoid summer because it's too hot, probabily late spring or early autumn will be the best choice.

Marc
Do not visit in the Summer, i.e. ~ May - August, European countries have an odd infatuation with spending their summers in Italy. It's a madhouse during the summer vacation time. Besides, it's pretty darn unbearably hot, especially since Italians neither believe in AC or deodorant.

That being said, I would suggest the spring or fall! Depending on Whether you are heading to the north or south of Italy, you should be safe and have a really relaxed vacation if you go ~ late March - late April or ~ very late August - mid November.

You may ask yourself how I come to my opinions! I grew up in Europe and spent most of my life there, visiting most European countries as time allowed.
