Where's the cheapest cities to spend the night in Italy?

I'm planning a rushed trip through Italy, and I'd like to know which cities are the cheapest to spend the night in. I plan on going to Venice, Milan, Florence, Rome, and Naples/Pompei.

If you could also provide the name of the hotel/hostel where you would plan to stay, that would be much appreciated. Thanks!

My family and I just moved back to the USA from Italy! I can tell you that Naples is a very unsafe place, so choose wisely on your choice of hotels! I am a military spouse and got to stay at the BEQ in Naples. I must tell you to see the area we moved from!!! If you can get to La Maddalena and Corsica (France), GO GO GO!!!! La Maddalena is in the middle of the Med. Sea, closest to Sicily (also a beautiful place to go!)!! Corsica is right across fro La Madd., so it is a faerie boat ride away!! Sardenia is the name of the part of Italy that you MUST visit!! :) Good Luck!!! Hope this is a little helpful for your travel, not so helpful for hotel stays!!

In Milan and Rome you'll find a lot more hotels than in any other city, so more cheaper one, also; but especially in Milan in order to find free room in economic hotel you have to book with some weeks in advance; in rome is just a little easier.
In Florence you can still find cheap places although less than in milan and Rome while Venice is expensive, generally.

Look here http://en.venere.com/ for hotels, B&B, etc and user ratings and comments.

Stay at the rose hotel in Latina, then you can take a nice short train ride into down town rome. We loved this hotel we stayed there everytime we went to Rome ( we were stationed in Italy for 3 years) The city of Latina really doesn’t get tourists, as most go past it from Roma to Napoli, or the other way round, on the main road! Where is it? The Rose hotel is situated at the Southern end of the city in Via die Volsini, just off of the Via dei Monti Lepini. It is fairly easy to find, There is also a great pizzeria nearby...if you stay there you HAVE to eat at the pizzeria. Treviso is also a nice place, for being somewhat close to Venice. However my favorite place to go to in Italy is Nove...I love it there

I stayed in Treviso when I went to Venice. It's about a 30-40 minutes bus ride north of the city. I can't remember the name of the place to save my life but I found it on travelocity.com. Very chep, nice room and fantastic food every night. They even had a live piano player in the dining room. ENJOY!

You could spend great sums of money in all of the cities mentioned.... but the overall least expensive would be Naples. Hotels around the station go for about 60 to 80 Euro a night. Food also costs less in Naples.
