Where are some fun places to go to in paris or venice with a group of friends?

In Paris you will want to see:
-The Sacre Couer/painters square (30-45 mins)
-The Eiffel Tower (1 hour to go to top)
-The Arc de Triomphe (20-30 mins)
-Napolean's Tomb (at the L'hopital des Invalids) (30 mins)
-The Louvre (at least 4 hours - the sphinx, venus de milo, the mona lisa, the crown jewels, the woman on the boat, roman statuary, hemaphrodite, etc)
-Notre Dame (1 hour)
-The Sant Chappel (located very close to Notre Dame, limited hours... the most famous stained glass in the world) (30 minutes)
-Possibly La Musee D'Orsey (sp? Modern art, visit time unknown)
-The Opera House (15 minutes for the outside)... while you're here, very nearby is the Fragonard perfume/cologne factory that offers an interesting 30 minute tour and a chance to buy their VERY exclusive product for very cheap... I still have the cologne I got there several years back and have NEVER seen another bottle of Fragonard outside of France.
-You'll also want to take a river cruise tour (1.5 hours)
-Finally, be sure to catch some of the more famous squares and bridges.

In Venice the story is different, you want to get a bit lost and experience some of the twisty back "streets" full of their shops and culture... though some of the "Streets" are three feet wide. Forget private boats, just get day passes for the "water Busses" which will save you ALOT of money and get you around reasonably quickly. You will, of course, want to see:
San Marcos' Square which includes:
- Feeding the pigeons
- The San Marcos' tower
- San Marcos' cathedral
- The bridge of Sighs (walk along the main canal heading behind san Marcos' cathedral
You will also want to see the Rialto Bridge and do some shopping around that area... famous Murano Glass.
-There are many churches, one, which is very near the San Marcos' Square stop (but accross the main harbor) is absolutely beautiful
- Gondola rides (EXPENSIVE)
The main thing in Venice is to get lost, catch a ticket to one of the Islands, wander around and see buildings that aren't on the picture books but will wow you nonetheless.

Smoky Jo is right though, if you're going with friends, Paris has a better "nightlife." Barcelona and Rome top both for that though...

I've been to both.They're totally different.With friends I would recommend going to Paris.There are a lot of places to visit and to entertain.Venice is nice too but it's much smaller.There's a great carnival these days there though. . .

the entire city of venice is an adventure.

there's no one place i enjoyed the most, it was an awesome city.

paris definitely had it's perks, history and beautiful sites...but a lot of it seemed dirty and not so appealing.

I'd vote for Venice.

I suspect you are young and if so you will find more places to "have fun" in Paris than in Venice that is if you are staying in the city itself. Regarding accomodation you will almost certainly find it cheaper in Paris. I personally prefer Venice, there are places to have fun but you will have to search them out, it more a city geared to cultural pursuits. What I would suggest is staying in one of the resorts close to Venice when you will be able to soak up the Venetian culture and spectacle during the day and return to a throbbing area of nightlife later. There are plenty of resorts in close proximity which are convenient for transport, for example if you stayed on the Jesolo side of the lagoon there is an excellent waterbus service from Punta Sabbione right into the heart of Venice. Bus travel to the waterbus terminals is cheap and easy but make sure you buy your ticket before catching the bus. A little further away is the town of Caorle, it's a great place to stay but travel to Venice will take longer. It is certainly worth exploring if you are in the area with time to spare. Having been to both , I would suggest you go to Paris if you are going with friends as it sounds like you want to have some fun. There are loads of great places to see - montmatre and sacre coeur are particular favourites of mine, but of course there are the usual Notredam, Eiffel Tower, Place de la concorde, the Louvre etc etc. At night you can do all sorts and it depends whether you want a truly french or more international flavour - the area around the Moulin Rouge - Pigalle - has a lot of International bars and if you want a laugh with your friends I imagine would be fun. Would advise you either get bus or a boat so you can orientate yourself a bit - oh and the shopping is great. I love Paris, but for me, it's Barcelona everytime! Not on your list I know but I would think about it! Have fun!
