Well, dear, if you look at a map of Italy, you'll see that it's a long piece of land that stretches out into the sea, so quite a lot of it is near the coast. |

You are spoilt for choice...
In my , the best coasts ( from a natural point of view ) are:
Ligurian ( for example, Cinque Terre)
Southern-Tuscan ( Argentario or the islands)
Campanian ( for example, Amalfi or the islands)
Calabrian
Sicilian
Sardinian
Instead, if you are looking for entertainment, I suggest you Riviera Romagnola (Rimini,Riccione, Cattolica, Milano Marittima) |

Have you had a look at a map? Define near the sea/coast. Most parts of italy are not more than 75miles away from the sea so even if you are somewhere inland you should be able to make it to the coast in less than two hours |

Sorrento is a popular holiday spot but theres not much of a beach. Capri is a little island just off there, and then theres the Amalfi coast nearby. Naples is just by the coast too |

It depends on what you consider "close". If you look at a map of Italy, you'll see that most of Italy is not far from a coast. Only the far northern parts require much travel to get to a beach. Where I live in northern Italy, I can get to beaches on the east coast in about an hour and less than three hours to the west coast.
Rome has very easy access to some very nice beaches via the public transport system. You could also consider places like Rimini, Gabbice Mare, or Viareggio which all have excellent beaches. There's a public beach on the Lido island of Venice or on the mainland at Lido di Jessolo. Sardinia, Sicily, the far southern part of Italy, the Amalfi coast, Cinque Terre, ... It would be difficult to pick a spot that isn't close to a great section of coastline. |
