What's special abt italy is that each and every single spot has a special thing in it.. so no matter where u stay u will have a great time..

The main cities are Rome, Milan, Florence, and Venice.

Venice: Super romantic
Florence: Rich in art and history.. beautiful scenery in the outskirts of the city.
Milan: shopping, shopping, and shopping!!!
Rome: GREAT nightlife

i highly recommend taking a ferry out of naples to the island of capri. this should just be a day trip, because hotels in capri are extremely expensive, although very beautiful and luxurious. the main attraction in capri is the blue grotto which is pretty cool, and theres plenty of shopping and sightseeing

I'm Italian and I did a survey on this, here is order of preference:

1) Florence and Lucca (very romantic)
2) Rome
3) Venice
4) Cinque Terre - not a city though but a gem
5) Pisa
6) Assisi anf Perugia
7) Naples in you like culture and the rough side cause it's polluted, ;chaotic and rundown.. I like it but it's a shock to most north americans

You can take a train to all the above and it's cheap and they have many. Avoid doing it through a travel agent, do it on the spot there are plenty.

Avoid Genova, run down, Bari and the south not as nice and people are out to get your wallet.

Rome as a first choice, obviously, for a few days. Then Venice for two or 3 days. After that, perhaps Milan if you have time. You could spend MONTHS in Italy! By the way, driving in Italy is reputedly the most dangerous in all of Europe -- wait until you see the traffic and the drivers! Don't rent a car!!!!!

Good choice!!!
I'm from Italy and I can advise you some city.
Rome is wonderful...then you can visit Florence, Milan and Venice.
There are more cities that you can visit, but 7 days aren't very much...
I hope it helps you...=)...And I hope you will enjoy it!!!

Since you're young the city you should see is Venice. (If you were older and / or very interested in art the second city to visit is Florence). The first choice in cities is Rome.

Seven days is 2 cities in Italy. Fly into Rome and take the train to Venice. Spend 3 days in Venice then back to Rome for the remainder. If you try to see any more than that you will be spending too much time packing / unpacking and getting situated in a new hotel. If you can swing it, flying into Venice and out of Rome will be a better use of your time.

Along your way take notes of the places you will want to go next time.
