I have only been there once but I stayed at The Hotel Veneto. It is a 3 star hotel in a 5 star neighborhood. It is only a short walk to the Spanish steps & the historic areas... Plus, up the street there is a nice, peaceful park where a lot of locals hang out... I loved it there. |

There are many hotels near the Termini, the main train station in Rome. This is a very convinient place to stay as the two Metro (subway) lines in Rome meet here and there are a ton of busses that also stop at the Termini. It is also possible to take the train from the airport in Rome to the Termini so transporation from the airport is easy (and relatively cheap) to this area. The Metro will take you right to the Colleseum and Vatican City so two of the largest tourism draws in Rome are readily accessed from this area. |

It depends on how much money you have and what you want to do.
I found a hotel on the far side of the Palatine Hill called Casa Kolbe. It's big, inexpensive, in a quiet neighborhood, and is walking distance from the Foro Romano, the Circo Massimo, and a number of other historical sites. On the down side, it's a bit inconvenient to public transport, which probably means taking a taxi to get there when you arrive. |
