It depends what you want to do. Rome has a lot of history. You can go to the Vatican, the Sistine chapel, colloseum, trevi fountain,...
Or go farther south to Sorrent, go and see Pompeii. It's awesome. It's the city which was covered by the lava of Mt. Vesuvius. From there you could go to the island of Capri. Nice little island.
If you just want to go to a beach, go to Jesolo. They have sand beaches there. From there you could do a trip to Venice.
Italy has a lot to offer. You can also stay in the mountains and go skiing.

Depends what you like, and how much Italian you speak. In bigger cities there are more English speakers than in small cities. I will of course suggest Rome, for is where I live. Here you will not only meet the Italians, but people from all over world. Is filled with art, culture, and cuisine. If you come here, you must of course visit all the major sites but you also should just sort of get "lost". Peek in all the little churches and discover some undiscovered (by many tourists) beauty.

Also, while there if you want to learn more about Italian culture just ask a Italian! We love to talk about our country :)

Best wishes.

... well, Italy is a lovely country. Florence, Venice, Treviso, Pisa are very romantic cities. You can see a collection of video clips from people who traveled to Italy http://www.cheaptickets.gr/videos/clips_3.php
A short tip: if the city has a canal it's even more beautiful!

Well...to me the nicest cities are: Rome, Florence, Venice, Milan.
Sardinia is wonderful at summer time...and also Cinque Terre, Capri, Positano.
I come from the Marche Region, it is less known but there are wonderful places to see, too.
Have a check: www.turismo.marche.it
And have a nice trip!

there are lots of places you can visit in Italy. From Rome, Florence, Milan, Naples, Venice. It's all historical and if you love histories you'll surely like it here. In every place from example here in Florence, there are called Sightseeing bus. It's cheap and it will bring ypu from one historic place to another all over Florence.

Vinci in tuscanny to see the birthplace of Leonardo da VInci.

Naples- Pompeii, Herculanium.(1.5hrs from Rome)

Padua, Verona, the lakes, the Dolomites etc etc.

I can only list a few things here or I'd be going on for days

If you're pushed for time then train travel in Italy is very cheep and efficient.

Great guide books are the Eyewitness Travel Guides. They have photos, every attraction you can think of, opening times and great maps.

Take a look at these web sites and enjoy your trip.
