Where should I stay in Rome?
I realise this question has been asked numerous times but none of the answers seem to contain the information I need.
Rather than which hotel to stay in I was wondering which area was best to stay in if only there for 1 night.
Thanks alot!
Also, anyone know any good sites to find good last minute deals on hotels?
If you're there for only one night I'd go into old town near the Patheon or Trevi fountain so you get a feel for how cool Rome can be.
I've found super rates at this site, but shop it around b/c things can change. Some sites get deals on hotels.

I stay at "Hotel Abruzzi" two years ago for a song. It's RIGHT across from the Patheon...no great frills but a heck of a location and an amazingly cheap deal
Good luck!

The Yellow Hostel.
It is nice and cheap and near all the sites and the train station! good luck!
You'll probably make friends there and there is a nice bar/restaurant attached to the hostel.
You can find more information and even book a night at hostelbookers.com!
HAVE FUN! ROME IS AMAZING! I HAD SUCH A GREAT TIME WHILE I WAS THERE!

We just returned from a week long stay in Rome! We stayed on the outskirts of town, which was not so convenient for site-seeing. I would say closer to the ancient city. There is so much to see and the subway lines run right nearby. You could probably google Rome Ancient City hotels and find some matches.
We found our hotel through Expedia.
Also, just a note, their pillows are flat in Italy and the beds are extremely firm. There is also a lack of alarm clocks so be sure to have a watch or a global phone to keep track of time.
Have fun!!!

Stay near the main train station, Termini. I recently stayed at the Radisson SAS Hotel, a block from the station and a quick train ride from the airport. Hotels around the Termini tend to be cheaper--even the 3 and 4-star hotels and in front of the Termini is the bus depot with buses to take you anywhere you want to go. Also, at the Termini is a stop of the subway, or Metro.
