Where should I stay in Siena?

My wife and I are traveling to Tuscany in Sept. and would like to stay in Siena in a non-touristy but nice hotel. Does anyone have a recommendation? We would like to make this our hotel for the week as we visit the Tuscan area.

If you want to stay right inside the city, I recommend Palazzo Ravizza. Romantic, family-owned pensione which has all the comforts you need. Just inside the historic walls of the city and with a lovely garden (hard to get in town).

If you want to stay outside of town in the countryside (I'm assuming that if you'll be exploring Tuscany, you'll have a rental car -- convenient and almost necessary to see the best places) there are a number of wonderful farmhouse stays as well as countryside hotels. Let me know if you would like a list -- I won't take up space here if not necessary.

Quickly just a view tips on touring Tuscany:

Don't miss: Pienza, driving the road to the abbey of Monte Oliveto, taking a wine tour (Castel di Brolio just outside of Siena in Gaiole does a great one as does Avignonesi near Montepulciano) and Volterra, worth it just for the ride out there.

In Siena, eat at Trattoria Il Torre, which on the street to the left of the city hall and tower off the Piazza del Campo.

Well, there are certainly plenty of great choices.

If you're looking to go 5-star, try the Grand Hotel Continental. Other great 4-star resorts include the Jolly Hotel, Hotel Athena & Il Borgo de Vescine.

Head over to http://www.resideo.com/it/siena for a full list -- you can read about each place, check rates & book online.

Have fun!
