Both are wonderful, but I suggest Florence because it is much near to Rome than Venice and there are so many things to see!
Also the hill region between Florence and Siena (the Chianti) is wonderful and it is an unforgettable experience.
If you carefully plan your trip in Tuscany, you can see: Florence, Chianti region and Siena (and maybe San Gimignano too).
You can plan 1 day in Florence (coming from Rome by fast train, about 1hour30min), seeing the Duomo, the old town and visiting a Museum like Uffizi or Accademia Gallery. Then you will rent a car and reach (30 minutes driving) a nice farmhouse in Chianti:
"Il Romeo" apartments,
website: http://www.vacanzainchianti.it
(fantastic view over the Chianti hills and vineyards).
From here, it's easy to reach Siena (1 hour driving or 45 minutes train) or San Gimignano (30 min driving). One day is enough to visit one of these towns (they are not big cities).
Then you will come back to the farmhouse and the morning after you will go back to Florence (crossing again the Chianti hills).
What do you think?
bye

I've been to both and I would go back to Florence before Venice. Florence is just a much easier city to find fun stuff to do. Lots of night life on the plazas, more art and music, and much friendlier people. |

Venice is wonderful, but it is very unique and isn't the typical Italian experience that Florence is. If you are going to go see Italy, I'd say Florence. If you are traveling with a companion that you are romantic with, I'd say Venice. |

Both are absolutely beautiful...Venice is a bit more touristy with couples and families but plenty to do for young gals...I am of around the same age and had a blast, it is expensive but there is a lot to see and tons of shops. Florence is amazing too and I hear there is quite a night life, I have spent quite a bit of time in both places, but if you are going just for the weekend..I would pick Venezia (Venice)! |

Oh.Venice or Florence, that is the question! I can assure you that these two cities are both marvellous! I visited both different times because I'm Italian, I live in Naples ( that is a very beautiful city too, but I guess you are not interested in visiting it).
So, the answer is very difficult to me because I love both...
If I have to choose, maybe I would prefer Florence, because:
1) is nearer to Rome, about 3 hours by car, instead of 6 hours for Venice
2) November is a dangerous month for Venice, because there is the phenomenon of the "Acqua alta", that means "High water": when it rains a lot, most of the storic center is full of water, because of the flood tide of the lagoon...people can walk only on wood passages.
3) The Duomo of Florence is, according to me, the most beautiful church of the whole planet, it gives you shivers when you enter there.
ps: I hope I have been helpful to you, forgive my English mistakes! |

Venice. Especailly if you like pigens. lol. I had an awesome time there. I think it was more interesting then florence. florence got a little boring after a while. In venice there was always nice and interesting mask or glass shops to go into, and you could stay on the islands around Venice like Leto. I stayed there and they had beautiful beaches. Alos, the food was really good. |

Venice it has to be - Venice is the jewel in the crown of any visit to Italy. An absolutely incredible place - it is way better than any other city in Italy and in fact no other city on earth can compare to this incredible and unique place. |

I would choose Florence. Why? Well it's closer to Rome and easier to reach with a failry short train journey. It has a lot of art and things to visit, even in it's sorrounding country side. A lot of Michelangelo and Raffaello works, good night life and nice people.
Venice is nice but besides the canals and a few other things it's the same thing over and over. |
