Where should i stay before going to bologna? Milan or Venice?

I think that you should definitely stay in Venice. There is far too much to see in Venice to try and get out of Milan for only one day. It would also be difficult since public transportation is very slow, and you can't drive your own car into Venice.
My advice would be to find a hotel not in Venice itself, but on one of the beach resorts that surrounds Venice (Something around Lido di Venzia or so). Hotels there are usually fairly decent but also a bit cheaper than a Hotel in Milan or Venice itself. There is also a place to park your car (If you have one) and there are plenty of buses that will take you to the nearest ferry. The ferry is fairly inexpensive and takes about 20 or so minutes to get to the very center of Venice (a five minute walk to San Marco)
It also makes more sense to make a day trip to Milan from Venice, since there is not that much to see in Milan. Just take note: you have to have a reservation in order to visit Milan's most famous tourist attraction: Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper. You can make a reservation at www.cencolovinciano.it

Hi - both cities are expensive but Milan has a wider choice of hotels in its hinterland and a good transport system. Venice historical also has many hotels but not all of them are good value for money. Venice is a tourist city and prices and quality of service highly depends on the season you are visiting. When are you going there? What is your budget.. I mean how much are you willing to spend on your accommodation per night?
Venice has a large hinterland that extends from Mestre (the terra-firma) to Treviso and there are many choices of accommodation there.. B&B's, country hotels etc.. prices usually vary between 60 and 120 euros per night with breakfast. Transport is usually good but can be a problem in certain areas after 10 PM.
You can take a train from Milan to Venice - the intercity ride will take about 3 hours. It is feasible to visit the city in a day and return on the night train but that would be rushing it and you wouldn't really enjoy it much. It is easier to get from Venice to Bologna in terms of transport (there is a direct train line and commuters take it regularly) and Venice also has a large international airport. I can probably suggest hotels around Venice as I am from that area but Milan can be a little bit trickier. Hope this helps....

I would stay in Venice. It's a unique city you must see, Milan you can do without. if you don't want to spend too much for the hotel, you can stay in Padova or Verona for the night, and then take the train to Venezia in the morning. There are trains constantly running from both Verona and Padova to Venice and the trip is not that long. I did it last year, I stayed in Padova and everything went very good! Have a nice trip!

Milan and Venice are too far apart for day trips. Verona is a popular day trip from Venice, though.

It is much nicer to see Venice before going to Bologna - but Venice is one of the most expensive places to stay in all of Europe. The only cheap option is Camping Alba d'Oro for 12 EUR per night in a rented tent right next to the airport. I was there a few nights ago, it was alright if you could live for a night or two with the noise of the airport in the early evening. Check their website at www.plusvillages.com

If you intended to go to Milan for clothes shopping, go to Florence instead - much nicer city and far more varity. Milan might be where the producers and the fashion shows are, but the stuff a girl's dreams are made of is sold in Florence.

milano-venezia by train is about 5 hours...
venezia is more beautiful than milano but it is expensive to stay..you can sleep at padova and take the train to venezia (30-40 min) or at verona so you can visit romeo and giulietta city..(verona-venezia by train is about 2 hours)
You can visit venezia in a day..remember the Murano island!
Milano is caotic and traffic..Venezia is romantic and there aren't car..

Venice / Milan - they are approx 3 hours apart. If you are based in Milano (or Venice) you can easily make a day trip. take the 7am from Milan (or Venice) and return with a 6pm train. This is plenty of time to see Saint Mark's Square and the Doges Palace in Venice or the Duomo (cathedral) in center city Milan and visit one of the near by museums. If you get yourself booked to see the Last Supper you'll have done yourself a favor.
For cheap you'll have to go on line. Check out the bed & breakfast sites.... there is plenty to offer.

You could consider looking at the website below where discount accomodation can be obtained because I understand that they have special deals with hotels etc to accomodate travellers.

Perhaps you could become an entrepeneur and make money by helping people to obtain discounted travel and vacation accomodation.

On the weekend I met a woman who is making VERY good income, along the lines of what you are seeking, from doing this. In fact it is so good that I have joined her.

Everything is set up for you. All that you need to do is find two people who may also wish to do this.

However, you do need to make a small one-off investment of US$200 to cover the costs of a website with hosting and autoresponders etc.

These services are probably what you would need in most cases to work on the internet and would be cheaper than setting up your own monthly accounts.
