Don't forget the romantic Borghese Gardens, right behind the Spanish steps.

Relaxing and free!

We always rent an apartment in the historic part of Rome when we go. It's nice to have some groceries in the refrigerator to make yourself a snack when you're hungry instead of always having to find somewhere to get something to eat. There are grocery stores on almost every other corner and most of the owners speak some English. We have stayed at Palazzo Olivia before and it's in a great neighborhood. Close to everything. The manager can arrange for a car to pick you up, and take you to the airport when it's time to leave. http://www.palazzo-olivia.it/ Here's another site for more apartments all over Rome. http://www.b-b.rm.it/accommodations/list.php?tipo=2

For more information, get onto the SlowTrav website http://www.slowtrav.com/italy/vr/review.asp?n=1364 and ask questions on there. There's a place to ask questions to people who go there all the time. There's also a Fodor's website with even more information. http://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=2&tid=34929749

There on people on these websites that can and WILL give you restaurants that they love to go to. lol. Have fun. I'm jealous.
