My boyfriend and I live in Cannes in the south of France and really want to visit Italy. We work nearly 7 days a week so as we are only a couple of hours away we plan to go for the day or maybe 2. Can anyone recommend where to visit in the North West of Italy which wont be too far drive for us.

It depends what you are looking for but although you would preferably only visit the North West, Rome is said to be the ultimate place to go to. There is so much to see and experience there. Milan and Florence are probably your best bet for less of a drive. Try the following for holiday guides on Italy : http://www.uknetguide.co.uk/Holiday-Guides/Europe/Italy |

the coast to Genoa 1 and half by car from cannes, on the road called via aurelia or by highway, Genoa is very nice city, were you can eat very very well (trofie al pesto, pansoti al sugo di noci)and there is the most great old city in europe, Portofino, Camogli,Le cinque terre, Pisa, Lucca but in all direction you drive, can find beatiful places and good people, all in italy are suggestive and full of historical place. excuse me for the bad English have a good holidays you are welcome in Italy |

DEFINITELY Cinque Terre, especially if you like to be outdoors/hike. Hiking the 5 villages is so much fun! The food is amazing, especially in Vernazza. Definitely try some fish, since they are fishing villages. If you're not into hiking and being outdoors, then I would suggest Florence. It's BEAUTIFUL and there are a lot of different things to do/visit. There's everything from museums to gardens to churches. I studied in Florence, so I love it there, but my favorite weekend trip was, hands down, Cinque Terre. |

since u will be gone for 2 days, the north will be better. try visiting verona (the star crossed lovers city), lago di como (rich folks hang out there, very beautiful scenery with lake view and long walks..very nice and romantic, but dead quiet (so go there only if u have time), also milan (definitevely must see the duomo of milano, even if u dont get to see some places in milano, see the duomo), and venezia. it will be very easy if u take this route...when u get to italy and get to milan, from milan take a train and then go to verona (star crossed lovers city), and then get to venezia (perfect last destination for u and ur boyfriend, cause its soooo romantic to ride on the gondola)... venezia is further from milan, so that is y i advice u to stop and get off at verona, and then hop back into another train to get to venezia.. |

I'm Italian if you want a place near Cannes (I've been there: is fantastic!) you can visit Turin. It has got the famous Mole Antonelliana and, in it, there is the museum of cinema. in this city there is also the egyptian museum. |

If you want to drive to Italy, plan something realistic without thinking to go too far. You are near to Liguria, but this region is beautiful in the summer, much less in other seasons. I think the best for a short trip is Milan. You can reach it by car, it is a beautiful town even less "unique" than Rome or Venice. To visit other parts of Italy you need at least 3-4 days. You will have your time, and step by step you can know all Italy, but now begin with Milan. |
