OK - I know this doesn't help you much, but pretty much anywhere selling Italian made leather is of a very good quality. I bought a hand-bag in a place called Christopher's shoes about 9 years ago and I still get great use out of it.

Hi, you can try the "mercato di san lorenzo" (google earth it for location),
there are a lot of stores selling all kinds of leather goods at the mercato di san lorenzo,... if you want to pay a little extra you can try some of the designer stores like Salvatore Ferraggamo (very nice), versace, armani, and so on... let me know if u need more info on florence.
