you wont want to leave rome but if you do, take a trip down to naples and eat and eat and eat. go to sorrento and to positano.

I would suggest to make a fast trip to Naples and take a tour to Capri Island. It would be a short and wonderful escape through the same road (Via Apia) the antique romans traveled back triumphants from their conquest expeditions. Once in Capri, don't miss a sea tour to the "grotto azurro", a marvelous cave totally blue.

By the way, there is a saying in Latin: "videre Napolem and postea Mori" popularly translated as "to see Naples and to die afterwards" Mori is a little town nearby Naples but its meaning in latin is to die. It's just a curious anecdote.

Have a nice trip and upload your photographs to share your experiences.

I'm from Rome,i suggest you to spend at least 4 days here (i don't say it because i'm roman, but i swear it's a really wonderful city). You can spend the other 3 days in Florence,it's very easy to arrive there from Rome, you can take a train whenever you want in the Termini station which is in the centre and according to me is the best station in comparison to the others in the city! Also Florence is fantastic,it's very romantic and particular...you will like it i'm sure...but rome is rome,it is the capital,it's full of history everywhere...I think no other city all over the word is as fascinating as rome!!
ENJOY ITALY ;)

Seven days in Rome isn't too much because there's more than enough to see on and off the beaten track but Florence is also really worth visiting, it'll take you about 1.5 to 2 hours. Florence is quite small so you should be able to see the major attractions in one day.

You could also consider to visit Appia Antica and if the weather is good (I mean hot), Tivoli's Villa d'Este (a villa with spectacular fountains in huge gardens) is nice too. In Tivoli there's also Villa Hadriana.

Another thing you could do is going to Pompeii, close to Naples, a town that got destroyed and buried due to an eruption of the Vesuvio Vulcano. It's quite a long train ride though, I remember it was something like 3 hours.

Rome is a great city! I've been to Rome a few times, and it really doesn't get old! I know you have no intentions on spending too much time in Rome, but while there, be sure to visit places like Piazza Navona, St. Peter's Basilica, the Trevi Fountain. I know they all sound a bit touristy, but Rome is a beautiful tourist spot. I did a lot of traveling outside of Rome so I do recommend:

- Florence: wasn't my favorite; but still beautiful nonetheless. You can check out Perugia and Pisa in the same trip.
- Sorrento (Capri and Pompeii in the same weekend): highly recommend going here because there's so much to see and the weather, people, and food is amazing!
- Civitavecchia: old-time beautiful city
-Venice: it is EXTREMELY far, but worth the visit.

I almost forgot, for CHEAP train tickets, visit: www.trenitalia.com

Hope you have a wonderful trip to Italia; and when in Rome, do as the Romans do! Cheers! I have so many tips so I hope these few will help!
