This is a joke, right? Cause anyone who is over the age of 13 knows that the US has been a country for about 232 years; that the US wasn't even SETTLED by Europeans until late 16th century, and Rome (in Italy) was founded, oh, I don't know, about 2200 years ago! |

It depends on how you look at it. Obviously, the city of Rome existed long before the US was a country or any of the towns named Rome that are in the US existed. However, the country of Italy has only existed since the Kingdom of Italy in 1861; before that there were a number of separate independent states. |

Rome was founded in 753 BC. The US declared it's independence in 1776. Italy didn't become a country until 1861. Even though Rome is older than the US, "Rome, Italy" didn't come into being until nearly 100 years after the US. |

I hope you are kidding. Hopefully you know Rome has ancient structures and the US wasn't even a country 300 years ago! As for the new city of Rome in Italy is still pretty new because it is more civilized. Hopefully that helped. |
