Which hostel to stay in in Venice?

Me and my friend are planning on going to Venice for a few days at the beginning of september but we´ve looked at so many hostels and they have some really contradictory reviews. I was just wondering if anyone could recommend a good/fairly cheap hostel in Venice?
Thanks

I've always found the HI Hostels to be safe, clean, reliable and reasonably priced regardless of where I go around the world. I would assume they maintain the same standard in Venice so try them.

My advice is to look for an accomodation in Mestre, which is 10 minutes by bus from Venice but far less expensive. You can search on google. I found this for istance:

There is only one youth hostel in Venice and it's on the Giudecca. The darn problem with its location is that it costs Euro 6.00 each time you want to leave the Giudecca to visit the rest of Venice. The reason people use the youth hostel is to save a buck and you can run yourself bankrupt on the commute!
Try the Domus Ciliota – it’s run by the Santo Stefano Parish. Great location (quite central) and decent prices. Furthermore – there isn’t a curfew!
