Venice is such a beautiful city and there's so much to see. Yes, the landscapes of Sorrento are gorgeous but a bit boring. I went to both anyway. You can go to Scoobit.com, the hotel search engine at http://www.scoobit.com Switch the language to English, then fill the form with city name (Venice) you can leave the address field blank. Then click on "Search hotel". I went to MBest Western Hotel Olimpia Venezia, nice and clean place, loving it, but feel free to choose the hotel that best fits your needs. It's a safe website I've used many times so far, and you can book on line. In Sorrento I stayed in Hotel Antiche Mura instead. Same website as before http://www.scoobit.com fill the form with city name (Sorrento), leave the address field blank and click on "Search hotel". If you're planning an Autumn trip you'd better choose Sorrento though, because it has the warmer weather and because generally Venice has high water in Autumn. Just my two pence. You’re gonna have a great time, whichever you choose. |

That's a tough one to choose. Both are exceptionally beautiful and romantic places guaranteed to overwhelm you. But Sorrento is probably more fun for younger people while Venice is an artist's paradise. Beaches in Italy are usually crowded in summer but on the plus side, you will see many beautiful people.
If you choose Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast, don't miss out on sample the fresh mozzarella di bufala, pizza a metro (meter-long pizza) and limoncello. |

If you've never been, Venice is a more spectacular destination. Sorrento is nice and scenic, but Venice is one of those places in the world that you simply have to go to. Most of Sorrento is on a bluff overlooking the water so I'd have to say there is nothing in the immediate Sorrento area that is like the beach on Lido. |

It is fabulous. And they do have a beach on the other side of the Lido. |
