Which is better in the summer Venice or Florence?

For my graduation present I get to go to Italy for a week I have already chose Rome and I need one more city to choose I am going in the first or second week in July and I what to shop and see the country but I do not want to only go to boring art museums I want something exciting what is best for the time I am going and what are fun things to do there.

I've been to all 3 and Florence was kind of disappointing after Venice and Rome. However, there are cool vineyard trips in Florence. If you go to Florence, Pisa and Cinque Tierra is really close! Cinque Tierra is beautiful its a group of 5 little towns that are on the cliffs. I suggest Florence if you want to see Florence and the surrounding area but Venice if you only have a day.

absolutely Venice because the weather in Florence during summer is too hot.
Venice has also more things to see.

I'd suggest Venice. There are so many different areas of Venice - there's Burano, famous for its bold, colorful houses, and lace.... and Murano, famous for its glass. You can get custom handblown glass necklaces, souvenirs, etc. It's beautiful.

Then, of course, there's St. Mark's Basilica and the masks and birds and the amazing food and....

If you couldn't tell, I LOVE Venice. Florence is pretty nice, but Venice is so much more cooler and interesting, in my opinion.

Have fun! Spending 10 days in Italy was the best time of my life. Enjoy it. =)

You really have to decide for yourself. Other people's opinions will be based on what they want, not what you want.
For example Venice is unique and very expensive, Florence is great for history and culture and for shopping Milan is as good as anywhere, if you can afford it.
The lakes are beautiful & so is Tuscany. Whichever city or town you choose will be hot, expensive and crowded in July.
Rome is an obvious, and excellent choice, and will easily fill a week.
It also depends on which country you are travelling from and if you speak Italian. Not a lot of Italians speak English compared with other European countries. Don't know what your idea of "fun things" is but Italy is sophisticated compared with Spain, Greece etc.
Get yourself a good guide to Italy and do your own research.
Good luck & have a great time.

They are both beautiful, if you like Rome then go to Venice. Florence is full of museums and winding streets and very hot, yes with wonderful day trips to quiet little towns that have been mentioned. Florence also has markets, restaurants, night clubs and shopping as does Venice. I prefer Florence and I think you'll find it more crowded actually. I love the towns near by as well. Venice is more mysterious, smelly in the summer and is just as full of things to do, if you don't get lost, and you will. That's the mysterious fun of Venice.

Cool! Well in Venice there's water, and in Florence there's art, both are beautiful, it also depends how far you want to travel from Rome. Because if you go farther from Rome, more of your vacation will consist of traveling time.

The weather is nicer in Venice, but I think you will get more out of Florence. Also, Florence is more convenient to day-trips to Pisa, Siena, San Gimignano, Lucca and Assisi.
