SIENA!!! Siena still celebrates a lot of its medieval traditions like the Palio (if you go in the summer you can see it). Siena is still enclosed by a medieval wall. Also, it has beautiful architecture and when I lived there I felt that it was all that I had imagined Italy to be and wayyy more! The people are great, the language is supposedly the clearest dialect of Italian and it is really safe. The food is great too. Panforte is a delicious sweet cookie sold there. Florence is overcrowded with tourists and college students as is Rome. Milan is not too traditional. (at first glance the Palio may seem silly but you have to experience it and you will be overwhelmed because it is so unique and exciting)
Bologna is also cool because it has the oldest university in Europe. Also, it is the birthplace of tortellini and is called by some as the food capital of Italy. "Spaghetti Bolognese" came from here. (Meaty sauce spaghetti)
I vote for Siena though. |
