Which one rome or florence?

depends how long your going for. florence is jaw droppingly beautiful but two days and you'll have seen it all. rome is wonderful with secret fountains and squares all over the place along with the famous spots, but its massive and can wear you out.

Roma is a bustling very fast paced city, you hardly get time to think! it is also very beautiful,l Florence is also beautiful and a much slower pace, the people in Florence are much much friendlier than Romans.

That's a tough question...I would suggest you consider your mother's tastes and interests. Rome is full of art, architecture and lots of shopping but it is always busy and crowded...Florence, also full of art, architecture etc is quieter...and the countryside is so close to the center. You can get away from the city and take day trips to Sienna, Pisa and Lucca or tour the Chianti region...If I could live in Italy it would be Florence...Note - if you go to Florence do not shop in the center...you will find better deals in the areas where the locals shop or in Sienna and Lucca. Leather is the specialty but very costly in Florence. No matter which city you choose you will have a wonderful time..of that I am certain! Ciao!

As it's her first trip I would also say Firenze. Even if you see it all You are not far from Pisa or Lucca, one of the most beautiful medieval cities. Sienna is only a couple of hors away, as is Bologna. Four places all with very different feels.

all depends on how long you have. you really would need a week to see rome. if you only have a few days i would say florence.
i've been to rome loads of times and there is always something new to see. its a great city.
sorry i cant tell you anything about florence, all i seen of it was train station passing through, but i do know its not as big.

Florence definitely over Rome. You do not have to stay just in Florence, head out by car or organised tour to have a look around the Chianti region. You can even take a trip to Pisa in just over 1 hour by train. For train times - http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

Rome, Rome is definitely the place. Have you watched The Lizzie Maguire(?) movie? I think they went to Rome and the city is really scenic. it has classical architecture and I think there's a garden there with many water canals, but not sewage canals.

It all depends on what you are looking for.

Florence is a beautiful warm city full of art. You can see all the wonderful architecture and art of the Italian Renaissance. I love the Piazza della Signoria, with all of it's statues. The Duomo is great also. If you visit Florence you will find that the shopping is great, there are tons of street markets and cool store. Any woman would enjoy this! If you are interested in history the tomb of the Medici family is gorgeous, as is Michelangelo's David. If you are looking for more of a cozy city I would recommend Florence.

Rome is packed full of monuments. You can see the Trevi Fountain, the Colosseum, the Forum, the Spanish Steps, and the Villa Medici all within the same city. It is great to walk through the crowded streets of Rome and see something you recognize around every corner. It is thrilling to throw a coin in the Trevi and see the colossal Colosseum. If you like churches Saint Peter's Basilica and Saint Peter's Square are magnificent. If you like to be outdoors in big cities I recommend Rome.

Since this is your mother's first holiday I suggest taking her to Florence. It is a much smaller city; Rome can be a bit overwhelming. Both are absolutely amazing cities and I would recommend visiting both if you could, but under the circumstances I'd say Florence is the best choice. I hope you and your mum have a great time!

It's difficult to say as they're so different.

Florence is really quite small although it is very beautiful and my favourite city in the world. If she's never been to Italy before then I would recommend Florence as a start.

Rome is very busy all year round but it is truly stunning. If you don't go there this time you must make sure you do go one day. There's such a lot to see there.

well there is a lot to see in Rome- Trevi Fountain, Coliseum, Roman Forum, The Vatican is close, the Pantheon, and more

in Florence there is the Dumo, the statue of David, a lot of architecture, and art

I would chose Rome though, it is awesome

Hi, it depends on how many days u want to stay in Italy...to visit Florence u need 3 or 4 days, but Rome u need one week or more.
I suggest u to visit Rome and if u have free time go in a trip to Florence (u can catch the train that it takes about 2 hour-it depends from the type of train-)

They're both amazing historical and culturally interesting cities...

Both warm, welcoming places with great food!

If I had to choose, I couldn't, so I'd do both :)

In Roma you have the stunning Vatican City, St Peters Basilica with Michelangelos 'Pieta' and the Vatican Museums / Sistine Chapel, not to mention all the fascinating Roman remains...

And in Florence, it's the Renaissance, the Medicis, Savranola, the Bonfire Of The Vanities, the Duomo, and of course, Michelangelo's crowning masterpiece 'David' in the Acedema... plus the day trips to Asissi and Siena!

Pick one, they're both stunning, and your mother will treasure the memories!

For a first holiday i would choose Florence. For Rome you need more days to appreciate it...Florence is smaller and full of precious things to see and very very beautiful

If you are catholic Cristian Rome otherwise Florence. Rome is quite big city Florence is smaller both beautiful and full of art.

Both are great places but I would stil choose Rome.
Easier to get into from abroad and just so much to do there.

I was just in Florence and Rome last week and i must say, they both are very busy cities and fast moving.. I was more scared in Rome though.. I almost got hit by a car twice and you are constantly told to hold on to your purse tight.. I know, i know you have to watch your stuff everywhere in Italy, but i was more scared in Rome.. They are both beautiful places, but i would say florence is better for you and your mother. Hope i helped!
