It really depends on what you like ...
Italy is a very heterogeneous country... Both for natural landscapes and history and culture...
If you like the Roman period and the sea, I suggest you Sothern-Central Italy with a lot of monuments of that period, like Pompeii, Ercolano, Paestum, but also Rome the eternal city, and Naples and obviously Sicily ( Taormina, Agrigento)...
Also the coasts are very beautiful: "Costiera Amalfitana" is wonderful, but also Salento (in Apulia), the Calabrian Coast, Sicily and Sardinia but also Tuscan with its islands and Etruscan finds and then Liguria (Cinque Terre)...
If you like the medieval period you should see Sienna, Lucca, Assisi, Bologna and other little villages in Central Italy
If you like Renascence I suggest you Florence, Venice, Ferrara
And then Tourin, Milan and a lot of other cities are worth visiting like Trieste, Padua, Genoa, Verona, Vicenza, Parma, Pisa, Perugia, Treviso, Mantova...
If you like mountains, I suggest you Alps, with cities like Trento, Bolzano, Belluno, Aosta...
There are too much things to see in Italy and it's very hard to do a list |

In Calabria and Puglia the sea is beautiful and nice weather good food but the countryside is quite wild. Umbria is nice if you love San Francesco and Churches. Marche nice the sea is just fine.. |

I love the Garfagnana region. Lots of porcinis! Lucca and Barga. Not so overcrowded, just simple and beautiful. |

I was in Calabria, it is really great, the scenery and the weather. But there are no big cities where you could go to a nice restaurant and taste the Italian food. I would go do Napoli instead or Sorento which is also by the sea. Great restaurants with traditional Italian food. |

I am italian!!
However...
If you like swimming, going to parties along the beach you must go in Sardinia, Puglia or Marche (in particular Riccione and Rimini)...
If you like the mountain you can go to the Alpi...
