Which suburb in Venice is the best to stay in? |
Me and my girlfriend will be staying in venice for two/three nights starting tomorrow, and neither of us know the suburbs very well (ie. which suburbs are good to stay in). Can anybody please give us some information? For example which suburbs are good for clubbing, where the best restaurants are, shopping, sightseeing etc... I know this info is all available online, but there's just too much to digest.
Thanks heaps in advance! |

The Rialto area is good for it's night life as is Campo Santa Margherita. A good "sestiere" (one of the 6 areas of the city) to stay in may be San Marco or Dorsoduro.... all depends on your budget. |

I stayed in Lido di Jesolo when I was in Venice. It was SO MUCH FUN! They shut down this LONG block of the boardwalk-street and it was one giant party with stores open, clubs rolling, and people everywhere. We stayed at the Hotel Capri, it was a pretty adequate and clean place with a neat little restaurant. The hotel also featured balconies in each room. |

Lido is a nice place and to reach it you can take a ferry boat from either the railway station or from Piazzale Roma (car's parking space).
Lots of tourists stay in Mestre because there are more options at less expensive prices. To reach Venice from Mestre you need to take either the bus or train.
For shopping, sightseeing and restaurants I suggest you to experience them all in the main island, in Venice. Keep in mind that Murano and Burano islands are also worth to check and more calm places than the busy Venice but it will take from 35 to 45 mintues to reach them by boat. |

Anywhere on the mainland (eg. Mestre, Marghera) is cheap to stay but not very nice. They are a 15 to 20 minute bus ride into Venice.
Staying anywhere in Venice itself is beautiful. Its a very small city, with no cars, so you just walk around everywhere - its all so beautiful.
I don't think there are many clubs in Venice, its not really a clubbing kind of place. Lido is where the clubs are, so I've heard.
Shopping is great in any of the touristy places, esp between San Marco and Rialto. The street is all shops, non-stop!
Sightseeing - just wander around and look at everything. Everything is amazing and beautiful, its probably the most beautiful city in the world. Just remember there is far more to Venice than San Marco! |

Mestre is much cheaper but not very picturesque, but who cares if you are just sleeping there. It is very industrial. |
