Who is "Roma" - someone gave me a bust of him? |
I was just given a bust as a second hand gift. It's a nice head, all things considered, but it has the word "Roma" written on it. Does anyone know what this means - is it just another word for "roman", does it refer to the founder of rome? Is it a person?
Thanks! |

"Roma" is the Italian word for Rome. It comes from the word "Romulus" who, with his brother Remus (that he later killed), were the founders of Rome.
It could be a bust of Romulus or it could be a copy of of an antiquity with "Roma" inscribed as souvenir from Rome. |

This is probably the city of Rome personified in ancient times. Type "URBS ROMA COIN" into a search engine and look at the images. If your bust looks anything like the obverse of these coins, then this is it. |
