It's a nice place to visit if you never have been there, icluding the sourrondings. Famous is its "Quartiere San Pellegrino", the ancient heart of the city of the Popes. I enjoyed pretty much. Have a look to this site that I know. It's in Italian but is nice so that you can have a little idea as well.

Viterbo is a nice city and I guess the previous answerer did never visit it since nobody who has been there can say that's "horrible".
It's obviously nothing to be compared with Rome but it's however worthy with a short visit.
Here is a link (in English) with several infos.

Viterbo is very nice. It's a small medieval town and there are a lot of things to see. Rieti is nice too but Viterbo is better. Of course Rome is the best one but how can you compare a big town like Rome with a small town like Viterbo? There is a spaghetteria in Viterbo where you can eat 400 different types of spaghetti. Ask for it, it is well known.

Viterbo is a beautiful little medieval town well worth a visit. It is not on the mainstream tourist routes, and that's just as well because it is blissfully free of all those horrible tourist shops. It is very quiet and quaint, with nice little antiques and artisan shops.
There is a very pretty piazza in front of the main church (sorry, forget the name!) with an amazing view on the countryside. The surrounding countryside is also amazing, very lush. I live in Rome and have been to Viterbo several times and love it every time! Good food too!
Don't miss it!

Lara obviously has never been there and I don't think she even lives in Lazio. There are loads of beautiful, less known places to visit in this region, besides Rome.

ROME is the only city in region Lazio nice the other are horrible include VITERBO belive me i am Italian
