Why are the Spanish steps in Rome Italy called the Spanish Steps.?
Why are the Spanish steps in rome italy called the spanish steps? I have looked up rome history, no place is it talked about.
Because they're on the Piazza di Spagna, which was named after the Spanish embassy to the holy see. It used to be that it had two names, the other being Piazza di Francia, after the French embassy on the north side.
And their actual name in Italian is Scalinata della Trinita' dei Monti.
generalteh
named for spanish embassy thats about it.

this name is used only by the turist, real name in "Scalinata TrinitĂ dei Monti" scalinata is steps an trinitĂ dei monti is the church on top of the steps.
But because the steps are in piazza di Spagna (spanish square) they starting calling the spanish steps. If you in italy asking for directions, ask for "piazza di Spagna" if you say spanish steps they may don't undestand.
