Why do Italians stare at Americans so much when you are in Italy?

Additional Details
I thought it was because of the way we dress and I know italians dont like bright clothes, But since we are foreigners should we not dress different? I would not stare at a muslim with their head covered, when they are vacationing in the US.

You know, I've been in and out of Italy for nearly 30 years and when i 1st went to Italy I was able to "feel" the Italians staring at me. Now after so many years I realize that the Italians don't stare only at Americans but they stare at everyone and even each other. They would even stare all day at themselves if they could. Italians more than any one I've know love to look at themselves in the mirror or in shop windows.
It isn't because they are rude. It's a cultural thing. More than staring they observe you (in a positive way) to see how you are groomed, dressed and they way you speak (Italian, English or any other language).
So - I'd say don't be offended. I'd say to be indifferent and observe right back!

I agree with MeetCute but above all with kindofblue, in fact many Americans wear in a ridiculous and unaesthetic way from Italians' point of view... ^^"

Instead leynard's hypothesis doesn't convince me very much...

We are not attracted by the nationality of people...

I've seen some hot Americans but also some of them who were dreadful and I've never considered them hot only
because they were USA citizens...

---

leynard: my opinion doesn't change, as I've said, the nationality of people doesn't change my view about them...
And I'm not the only one...
However this is only the opinion of mine which is the result of my personal experience... I'm not arrogant enough to say that this is the truth for everyone ^^

Bye

Don't worry, they don't stare at you because you are American, they just stare at you, that's all :) They like staring at people. Actually, I'm Italian so I should probably say "we" :) I'm not lke that though.
I don't know why they behave this way, it's something I've never understood either. Sorry :)

I think you got the wrong impression

Kindofblue
Coz you dress really bad.
I don't really care, but most of italians care a lot...it's all about fashion down here.

mat_erazzi
because they are S L U T

look at your dress and then look an italian dress...
you'll understand it by yourself...

we can recognize a tourist just by his clothes.. and generaly because aren't fashion or stylish...sorry...but it's the truth..

there is also envy for ur power in the world, we try to understand what you got of so lucky that you won quite every war, you became so rich and so influential all over the world. we must thank america for the end of communism and our political alliance not based merely on force and the military.
ur dressing is not important. we love your music, your movies, etc., so we admire ur country.
i admire, for example, ur fleets around the world, and i ask myself how was it possible that all american fighter planes were not able to destroy 9/11 civil airplanes...

if i'm here, i must thank a gentle american lady married with an italian publisher...

lol

You guys have load voices, attracts attention.

no seriously

We all get american tv and so it makes you guys more interesting then say the germans or english.

Like your all going to jump in a car and race through the streets like in the car chases in all your films lol... .

leynard
because the most of Italian people thinks that Americans are cool, just because of those American teenager movies... their culture, their style, their music...
Italians love foreign people (people coming from rich countries... they don't like albanians, morocans and so on) but they particulary love Americans

as an example:
an American girl/boy, that is just considered ''cute'' in the States, looks hotter to Italian guys/girls, just because she/he is American... that's probably why they are staring at you...
don't worry they don't bite, maybe they just want to get to know you and offer a drink

@ crogiolo
I said: ''cute'' girls look ''hotter''..
I didn't say ''ugly'' girls look ''hot''.
there is a huge difference..
