I went to the tower in April and went up. Behind the tower (from the popular view) is what looks to be some huge hydraulic pumps. My guess is that even though the tower is stable now and people can go up it, the mechanism is in place to correct if it ever starts to move again. |

This from Wikipedia:
On January 7, 1990, after over two decades of work on the subject, the tower was closed to the public. While the tower was closed, the bells were removed to relieve some weight, and cables were cinched around the third level and anchored several hundred meters away. Apartments and houses in the path of the tower were vacated for safety. The final solution to prevent the collapse of the tower was to slightly straighten the tower to a safer angle, by removing 38 cubic metres (50 cu yd) of soil from underneath the raised end. The tower was straightened by 18 inches (45 centimetres), returning to the exact position that it occupied in 1838. After a decade of corrective reconstruction and stabilization efforts, the tower was reopened to the public on December 15, 2001, and has been declared stable for at least another 300 years.[15]
In May 2008, after the removal of another 70 metric tons (77 short tons) of earth, engineers announced that the Tower had been stabilized such that it had stopped moving for the first time in its history. They stated it would be stable for at least 200 years |

good question - One day its going to fall. Apparently it moves a few cm a year. So one of these few years its going to crash and be on the cover of every newspaper for months. |

From previous knowledge I know that The Leaning Tower of Pisa is tipping about 1 cm a year this is due to when it was built it wasn't completely stable. The tower will 1 day fall over. |

A leaning building may keep its balance like any building else. If its centre of gravity is on a relatively central vertical, the building, even leaning, will stay. For instance, in the middle of Bologna there are two leaning towers (even if most tourists aren't aware). They are more ancient than that of Pisa, and they don't threaten to fall at all.
The tower of Pisa will fall over one day, it's right. But every building will... |
