Venice isn't that big and it's easy to navigate by vaporetto. You could visit St Mark's Basilica and the square, also the Doge's Palace is next door and if you take a tour you can see the bridge of sighs from the inside. You'll be taking the walk from the prison cells that the convicts did!! The Rialto bridge is a short walk away and there are lots of shops and markets there. If you don't fancy shelling out 90 euros for a gondola ride, take a vaporetto all the way along the grand canal and invest in an Eyewitness Travel Guide which gives you a step by step commentary on the palazzi you will see. If you like art, you could stop off at the Accademia.
Buon fortuna |

Venice is nice, a bit overrated though. Won't take long to visit. You dont need more than a couple of hours(about 5-6 hours...if you stop alot) Uhmm...just walk around, look at the sights, eat some food, just have fun |

St. Marks is beautiful, and if your in the Central square i found that it was very hard to get lost, have fun exploring, and when you eat, don't go to a place that is out in the open, find some hole in the wall type place, that's what we did and it was amazing
Oh, and the Dulce's Palace(sp?) was breathtaking too, its right by st. Marks so you wont have a problem finding it, definitely worth spending the money to go see that too |

The Basilica San Marco (St Mark's church) in the Piazza San Marco (St Mark's Square) is definitely worth it, as is the Doge's Palace next door. I also recommend going to the top of the Campinili (tower) in St Mark's Square if you want a bird's eye view of the square. It's not a great view for pictures of the basilica or palace though, as it's too close.
If you're there early enough, go to the Rialto Market near the Rialto Bridge to see the fish, produce, etc. The Accademia is great for art & we also enjoyed the art museum hidden at the other end of St Mark's Square. I can't recall the name at the moment, but it's listed in Foder's City Pack guide book, which lists the top 25 things to do & includes a map.
Get a day pass on the vaporetto & take it the entire trip up the canal to see the facades of the buildings & the Rialto bridge. try to sit outside in the back, if there's room.
There's also ton's of beautiful churches all over Venice. we visited 16 different ones. My favorite was the Santa Maria De Miracoli.
Have a great time. |

Take a gondola trip. You'll see most of what you wish to see from the water. If time left, do some window shopping |
