"Li manco" vs "Mi manchi" when trying to say "I miss you" in italian...?

"Li manco" vs "Mi manchi" when trying to say "I miss you" in italian. Differences? Is one more formal/suitable than the other?

trying to write to an old italian friend...this is not so much for a lover, although we are very close.

thanks in advance for your thoughts.

"Li manco" is meaningless in this context, litterally means "I can't focus on them". "Mi manchi" is the perfect translation for "I miss you".

elena
Li manco isn't correct ...it should be gli manco..but it means that somebody miss you...mi manchi is the right expression..if you will see soon you can also write"spero di vederti presto" that has the same meaning of "I hope to see you soon"..however the right form is MI Manchi...

doofie_46
li manco means i miss them, but meaning when you shoot them....
tell, her mi manchi, it's better

Italian Boy Learning English
Mi manchi = I miss you.

GLI manco = He miss me.

Hi!
"Li manco" doesn't exist grammatically speaking.
If you have to say "I miss you" we say " Mi Manchi"
If you mean " I Miss him " we translate it in "Gli Manco"or "Le Manco" if you are speaking about a girl.
"Gli" is the reflexive article for men and Le is the reflexive article for Girls. We have too article and forms!!!!Sigh!
We also change the last part of the word...Manchi, Manco.
The infinite form to miss for us is "mancare".
I'm from Milan ;o).

I think u meant "gli manco" which means that u r missed by some1. to say "I miss u" we use "Mi manchi",go for it,it's the most correct way to say it,also if it's to friends and not lovers.
tc!

Riatz
you have to say mi manchi! li manco means that you miss him/her... but is used only if you are speaking and you want to say that you miss him

Elenetta del suo Adri
Mi manchi = I miss you. That's what you need, there are no love implications.

(GLI manco = He misses me)

Ti manco = You miss me.
TI manco? = do you miss me?
Ti manco anch'io? = do you miss me too?

Huge hugs to you and your old italian friend =)
