by bus, go north along the coast and south to pisco. check out the "islas ballestras" (awesome!!) . also south is the nazca lines. i think there are some pyramids to the north of lima.
by plane, you can go cheaply to cuzco (machu pichu) arequipa, and puno (lake titicaca)....cant remember if the ariport is in puno or juliaco for that lake....
also fly to iquitos for the jungle.
cuzco is a LONG weekend (4 days IMHO)
arequipa can be short unless you take a tour to the coloca canyon (deepest in the world).
check out some african music in towns south of lima.
of course the peruvian pan flute (queña and zampoña) are great. hope you can find some bands playing.
there were some black slaves here and there is still one or two plantations around that have the full history in tact. there is a town or two south of lima (i can't remember the name) that has these.
have fun! |

If you're only staying in Lima you could take advantage of your time and enjoy Peru's gastronomy, everything tastes so good there, almost all restaurants are pretty good, especially Chinese restaurants or "chifas", the best are located near Chinatown. The suburb of Miraflores is great to keep you entertained, at day or at night. Park Kennedy is pretty popular, there are tons of stores around the park that have nice stuff. Larcomar is also located in Miraflores and it has a lot of restaurants, a movie theater, bowling, coffee shops, bars and nightclubs. Parque del Amor is close to Larcomar, it has a great view of the sea and you can even go paragliding for about 15 minutes, you'll get a nice view of the city. If you get tired of the city scene you can go to the countryside to places like Chosica, it is always sunny there and some restaurants there have pools and outdoor games. Another option is to visit Palomino Islands, you'll get to see sea lions and sea birds without going too far. If you like animals you can also visit the Huachipa zoo or the Parque de las Leyendas zoo. You should attend a soccer match if the peruvian team is playing, they are usually fun and safe. I would also reccomend the Circuito Magico de Agua. I'm sure you'll find other things to do when you get there, ask the locals and they'll give you other ideas. |
